Before we tackle the subject on BP numbers, we need to know first what disease we can get when we have increased or lowered BP. Two things come out when there is a significant increase and decrease in our BP. That is, hypotension and hypertension.

Hypotension results when we have low BP. This can be caused by some diseases and an example is anemia. It can also be due to orthostatic hypotension wherein all blood is pooling up on our upper body and if we tend to stand immediately, we will collapse or feel dizzy. Another even that will cause hypotension is when we lose large amounts of blood in our body and this is very dangerous.

The opposite of hypotension is hypertension or HPN which is simply described as having an increased BP. There are many causes of hypertension. It can be hereditary or lifestyle-related and an example is frequent intake of fatty foods and lack exercise. If we cannot watch ourselves on what we eat or do, we will surely develop HPN.

Now since we talked about the two things that will happen when there is changes on the numbers of our BP, we need to know what the borderline values are. The values that we should take note of are 90/60 mmHg and 120/80 mmHg. If you are curious what mmHg is, it means millimeter mercury and it is the unit used in determining BP.

When we get a BP reading of 90/60, it is a borderline value and if we go lower than this, we can go Hypotensive. But, there are people who have a usual BP reading of 90/60 mmHg or slightly lower and this is normal for them and it is considered acceptable. Examples of individuals having lower BPs are the active athletes. One will know if an individual is in the hypotension stage because he will feel dizzy, sleepy, have headache and have tired body.

On the other hand, if one gets a BP reading of 120/80 mmHg it is also a borderline value. If you exceed this number, you are considered mildly hypertensive. Again, there are some individuals who can have a BP reading higher than this and still remains not hypertensive because they normally have high BP but are healthy. This will be determined by the physician.

Now that you know the two basic and significant blood pressure numbers, you should always remember it. This is because if you will have a BP check, you will already have an idea if you are a candidate for hypotension and hypertension. There are many hypotension and high blood pressure cures around that one can use if needed.
